Antonelli Expects Russell to Return Favor After Monza Qualifying

Kimi Antonelli, the championship leader, aided George Russell during the qualifying session at Monza, where he provided a slipstream advantage. This collaboration allowed Russell to secure a second-place starting position behind Pierre Gasly, while Antonelli, who faced an engine penalty, finished seventh after completing only one competitive lap.

Antonelli noted that he was fulfilling his role by helping Russell, describing the situation as unusual for his home race but confirmed that the team had planned this strategy beforehand. Previously, Russell had also supported Antonelli at Zandvoort by allowing him to pass on fresher tires.

With a 59-point lead in the championship, Antonelli expressed that their relationship has evolved into a competitive one, yet remains respectful. Both drivers understand that team priorities take precedence, and Antonelli is confident that they will discuss future collaborations when Russell needs assistance with power-unit components.
