Arch Manning Remains Texas Starting QB Amid Coach's Call for Improvement
Texas coach Steve Sarkisian has announced that Arch Manning will continue as the starting quarterback for the upcoming game against Ole Miss. However, Sarkisian noted that Manning's performance must improve, indicating that the pressure is on the former five-star recruit.
Following a recent loss to Florida, where Manning struggled, Sarkisian mentioned that backup KJ Lacey has been receiving first-team practice reps. Despite this, he reiterated that Manning remains the starter but needs to show significant improvement.
Manning's performance this season has seen a decline in consistency compared to his previous starts, with 1,295 passing yards, 11 touchdowns, and five interceptions. The Longhorns' offense has struggled overall, ranking low in several categories within the SEC. Sarkisian has pointed out that Manning's recent mistakes, including a late-game fumble, have contributed to the team's offensive issues.
