Argentina Will Not Pressure Messi for 2028 Copa America
The Argentine Football Association has stated that Lionel Messi will not face pressure to play in the 2028 Copa America. Claudio Tapia, the president of the association, emphasized that the decision regarding Messi's participation will be entirely up to him.
Messi, who is currently 39 years old, has not yet revealed his plans following his significant contributions to Argentina's journey to the 2026 World Cup final, where he scored eight goals and provided four assists. Tapia noted that Messi must feel motivated to play, recalling uncertainty about his participation in the previous World Cup.
In addition to discussing Messi, Tapia expressed his desire to retain Lionel Scaloni as head coach beyond the expiration of his current contract later this year. Scaloni has led Argentina to notable successes, including Copa América victories and the 2022 World Cup title.
