Aryna Sabalenka, the world number one, interrupted her third-round match at the US Open against Kamilla Rakhimova due to a noticeable cannabis smell. The incident occurred during her second service game on Louis Armstrong Stadium court.

Despite the distraction, Sabalenka secured a straight-sets victory with a score of 6-3, 6-4. She raised the issue with the umpire, expressing her hope that spectators would refrain from smoking near the tennis courts.

The smell of cannabis has been a recurring issue at Flushing Meadows, as recreational use is legal for adults over 21 in New York. Sabalenka noted that while she had previously detected the odor at the tournament, it was particularly strong during this match.
