Ashish Yadav Wins Silver at U20 World Championships

Ashish Yadav, a 19-year-old from Mawaiya, Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, has won a silver medal in the javelin throw at the U20 World Championships in Eugene, Oregon. His journey to success started with training near dry ponds using a wooden javelin, and he was later picked to train at the Inspire Institute of Sport in Hisar.

Ashish's coach, Arvind Kumar, saw promise in him despite his initial underweight frame and limited throwing distance of 60 meters. Over the last two years, Ashish has significantly improved, and his recent performance has made him and his coach proud. Ashish's achievement is even more commendable given that he had to recover from a knee injury and overcome mental setbacks after finishing fifth at the U20 Asian Championships.

Ashish's success has been inspired by Neeraj Chopra, who won a gold medal in the same event in 2016. Neeraj has praised Ashish's achievement, stating that it is just the beginning of his journey. Ashish has been watching clips of Neeraj to improve his technique and had even trained with him in South Africa in 2024. With his silver medal, Ashish has ended India's 10-year wait for a javelin medal at the Junior World Championships.
