Ashton Jeanty Progressing from Ankle Injury, Week 1 Status Uncertain
Ashton Jeanty, a second-year running back for the Las Vegas Raiders, is recovering from a sprained right ankle, although the team's commitment to his participation in Week 1 is still uncertain.
Jeanty resumed activities on Tuesday, working alongside trainers rather than with the team, which indicates positive progress. The Raiders chose not to place him on injured reserve, which would have sidelined him for at least four games. General Manager John Spytek mentioned that Jeanty is in a good position and may return sooner than expected, but did not confirm his availability for the season opener against the Miami Dolphins on September 13.
If Jeanty is unable to play, the Raiders will rely on rookie Mike Washington Jr., who performed well during the preseason. Washington, selected in the 2026 NFL Draft, recorded 168 rushing yards on 23 carries across three games. The Raiders are counting on a strong running game under new head coach Klint Kubiak, who previously led a successful rushing offense with the Seattle Seahawks.
