Asia Games Hosts Unable to Provide Accommodation for All Athletes

The organizers of the Asian Games in Japan, scheduled from September 19 to October 4, have announced that athletes must find their own accommodations as they have exhausted available lodging options.

Initially expecting 15,000 participants, the number has risen to approximately 17,000 following the inclusion of new sports. The mayor of Nagoya, Ichiro Hirosawa, acknowledged the challenges of accommodating this increased number within a limited budget.

Hideaki Omura, president of the organizing committee, stated that the agreement with the host city only covered 15,000 individuals, and there are no resources for additional arrangements. As a result, 4,000 to 5,000 athletes will stay on the Costa Serena cruise ship, while others will use temporary huts or hotels in Tokyo for events like swimming and equestrian.
