Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya Face Weather Challenges Ahead of Opening Ceremony

The Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya are encountering significant weather challenges as they approach their opening ceremony on September 19. Organizers are preparing for potential disruptions from Tropical Storm Dujuan, which is moving towards central Japan and could strengthen into a typhoon.

Heavy rainfall has already impacted the Games, leading to delays and the evacuation of hundreds of athletes from their accommodations. Competitions in sports such as football, basketball, volleyball, and cricket have commenced, but the threat of further severe weather looms, with forecasts indicating the storm could reach the region around September 21.

Kosei Inoue, Japan's chef de mission for the Games, acknowledged the possibility of additional disruptions during a recent press conference. The logistical challenges are compounded by the large scale of the event, which involves approximately 17,000 athletes and officials.
