Asmita Dey to be Promoted to DSP in Uttar Pradesh Police Following CWG Gold
Asmita Dey, who recently won a gold medal in judo at the Commonwealth Games 2026, is on the verge of a significant career advancement as the Uttar Pradesh Police plans to promote her from Sub-Inspector to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).
Dey made history by becoming the first Indian judoka to secure a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games, defeating Canada's Heidi Quach in the women's 48kg final. She expressed gratitude for the support she received from the Uttar Pradesh Police, which included financial assistance prior to her participation in the Games.
The promotion holds special meaning for Dey, who lost her father in December. She intends to dedicate this achievement to him. A police official confirmed that the promotion process is underway, with the necessary documentation awaiting approval from the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.
