Aston Martin Considers Return to Mercedes Power Amid Honda Struggles

Aston Martin's challenging initial season with Honda has sparked rumors regarding a possible return to Mercedes power starting in 2028. Reports indicate that team representatives have met with Toto Wolff at various locations, including Zandvoort, Barcelona, and Australia.

Supporting evidence for these discussions includes a photograph of a Mercedes scooter outside Aston Martin's hospitality unit. Although this does not confirm a contract, it has fueled speculation in the paddock. Team owner Lawrence Stroll may reconsider the partnership with Honda if the manufacturer does not show significant improvement by 2027.

Fernando Alonso noted after the Zandvoort race that while the chassis direction is promising, the latest engine specification has hindered drivability and gear-change improvements. Honda Racing Corporation's president, Koji Watanabe, acknowledged the need for progress and emphasized the company's commitment to enhancing its engineering capabilities. However, he did not specify a timeline for achieving competitive engine performance.
