Aston Martin Drivers Face Challenges with New Honda Engine at Dutch Grand Prix
Aston Martin drivers Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll experienced difficulties with Honda's upgraded V6 power unit during the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort. The team had introduced this engine as part of an in-season upgrade, but both drivers faced challenges in sprint qualifying.
During the qualifying session, Alonso struggled with heavy vibrations and finished 22nd, while Stroll placed 19th. Alonso noted that the engine's performance made it hard to control the car, particularly during braking. Stroll echoed similar concerns, indicating that they needed to analyze the data to improve their performance.
Despite a recent upgrade that had previously boosted Aston Martin's competitiveness, the introduction of the new engine required recalibration of the driveability, as Honda's project leader acknowledged that the changes in combustion characteristics necessitated further development.
