Aston Villa Nears Signing of Free Agent Leon Goretzka

Aston Villa is reportedly close to signing Leon Goretzka, a Germany international, on a free transfer. Goretzka became available after leaving Bayern Munich this summer, where he played for eight years.

The club has engaged in positive discussions with the 31-year-old midfielder as they seek to strengthen their midfield, particularly with Amadou Onana sidelined due to a knee injury. Previously, Villa had shown interest in Goretzka's former teammate Joao Palhinha, who is likely to join Benfica instead.

During his time at Bayern, Goretzka made 312 appearances and scored 51 goals. He also earned 73 caps for Germany, participating in the recent World Cup. His experience includes winning seven league titles and the Champions League in 2020. Aston Villa has seen several key players depart this summer, including Ezri Konsa and Morgan Rogers, while manager Unai Emery faces uncertainty regarding the future of striker Ollie Watkins amid transfer interest.
