Astros Acquire Jorge Barrosa from Diamondbacks

The Houston Astros have announced the acquisition of outfielder Jorge Barrosa, who was claimed off waivers from the Arizona Diamondbacks. This move comes as part of adjustments to both the 28-man and 40-man rosters.

Barrosa was designated for assignment by the Diamondbacks just two days prior, concluding his over 11-year tenure with the organization. He initially joined the D'Backs as an international free agent in 2017 and has recorded a batting average of .180 with a .241 on-base percentage and .302 slugging percentage across 254 plate appearances since his MLB debut in 2024. This season, he has played 97 games, primarily in center field, due to injuries affecting Arizona's outfield.

In addition to Barrosa's claim, the Astros optioned outfielder Jake Meyers to Triple-A and transferred right-hander Mike Burrows from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL. Burrows has been sidelined since July 7 due to elbow neuritis and has since developed shoulder inflammation. His recovery timeline is currently uncertain as he is set to be re-evaluated at the Astros' Spring Training facility.
