Astros Consider Oz Ocampo for Assistant General Manager Position
The Houston Astros are in the process of restructuring their front office and have interviewed Oz Ocampo for the assistant general manager position. This interview occurred on Monday, as reported by Brian McTaggart of MLB.com.
Ocampo has previously worked with the Astros from 2012 to 2020 and again in 2022, focusing on international scouting and player development. He has been credited with discovering several key players for the team, including Framber Valdez and Cristian Javier. After a stint as a special assistant with the Pirates, Ocampo returned to the Astros before taking an assistant general manager role with the Marlins, which ended in August 2024.
The Astros are currently seeking a new front office leader following the dismissal of general manager Dana Brown in August. The responsibilities have been temporarily divided among several assistant general managers and a senior advisor. The team is considering various candidates for the general manager position, and it remains uncertain whether Ocampo's potential hiring would occur before or after this decision.
