Astros Explore Options for Right-Handed Hitting Outfielder

The Houston Astros are currently in negotiations to add a right-handed hitting outfielder, as reported by Chandler Rome of The Athletic. The team has expressed interest in Rob Refsnyder and Austin Hays, both of whom were released this week after underperforming with their respective teams.

Refsnyder, who signed with the Mariners, struggled significantly, posting a batting average of .140 with four home runs in 129 plate appearances. He also dealt with knee inflammation that sidelined him for most of July. Hays, on the other hand, played only 12 games for the White Sox due to injuries, including a hamstring strain and a calf strain, finishing with a .233 batting average and one home run.

The Astros recently acquired left-handed hitting outfielder Daulton Varsho at the trade deadline but are still looking to strengthen their outfield. With Jake Meyers now starting in center field, the team is likely to pursue a major league contract for a new player, as signing a recently released player would incur minimal financial impact.
