Astros Set to Interview Mike Rizzo for General Manager Position
The Houston Astros are in search of a new general manager and plan to interview Mike Rizzo, the former GM of the Washington Nationals, on Monday. This comes as the team explores various options to fill the position that has been open since Dana Brown's departure earlier this year.
Rizzo, who has extensive experience in the role, was instrumental in building a successful Nationals team that won the World Series in 2019. However, following that championship, the Nationals struggled, leading to Rizzo's dismissal last year. Other candidates for the Astros' GM position include Brewers assistant GM Matt Kleine, White Sox assistant GM Josh Barfield, and several others, most of whom would be stepping into a front office leadership role for the first time.
While Rizzo's experience is notable, he is 65 years old, raising questions about his adaptability to modern front office strategies, particularly in data and analytics. He previously interviewed with the Athletics, who opted for a younger candidate.
