Athletics Claim Drew Rom from Brewers Off Waivers
The Athletics have claimed left-handed pitcher Drew Rom off waivers from the Brewers, as announced by the club. With an existing opening on their 40-man roster, the Athletics did not need to make any additional roster moves.
Drew Rom, 26, was originally drafted by the Orioles in 2018 and was traded to the Cardinals in 2023. His time with St. Louis was limited due to injuries, including a biceps and shoulder issue that required surgery in 2024. After missing the entire 2024 season, he returned to the mound in 2025, pitching 23 1/3 innings in the minors. The Brewers added him to their 40-man roster in June, but recent roster changes and injuries led to his designation for assignment.
This season, Rom has transitioned to a bullpen role, achieving a 2.20 ERA with a 36.1% strikeout rate in 41 innings at the Triple-A level. He has also made five appearances in the majors, allowing two runs over 5 2/3 innings. With under two years of major league service time and one minor league option remaining, Rom's potential and performance made him an appealing option for the Athletics, who have a strong left-handed bullpen.
