Athletics Designate José Suarez for Assignment
The Oakland Athletics have announced the designation of left-handed pitcher José Suarez for assignment. His roster spots will be filled by right-handed pitcher Geoff Hartlieb, who has had his contract selected from Triple-A.
Suarez joined the Athletics earlier this summer through a cash swap with the Seattle Mariners and has pitched for three teams this season, including the Braves and Mariners. He recorded a 5.65 ERA over 43 innings with the A's, significantly impacted by a recent stretch where he allowed 10 runs in just three innings.
Hartlieb, who previously played for the A's this season, has a 7.69 ERA in his major league career. His addition comes after the Athletics utilized five relievers in a recent game, necessitating a fresh arm in the bullpen. Hartlieb has pitched 48 1/3 innings in 27 minor league games this year, making him a suitable option for the team's immediate needs.
