Athletics Select Michael Stefanic to Roster Amid Injury Challenges
The Athletics have announced the selection of infielder Michael Stefanic's contract as they address ongoing injury issues within the team. Stefanic fills the active roster position of Jacob Wilson, who has been placed on the 10-day injured list due to left shoulder soreness.
Additionally, first baseman Nick Kurtz has been transferred to the 60-day injured list after suffering a strained right thumb earlier this month. Manager Mark Kotsay indicated that Kurtz is unlikely to return this season. Stefanic, who previously appeared in two games for the A's in May, was designated for assignment and later re-signed to a minor league deal.
Stefanic is recognized as a low-power contact hitter with defensive versatility, having played multiple infield positions in the majors and minors. This season, he has performed well in Triple-A, boasting a .296 batting average and a 9% strikeout rate. The Athletics are utilizing several players in their infield as they navigate a challenging season.
