Atlanta Braves Designate Danny Young for Assignment
The Atlanta Braves designated left-handed reliever Danny Young for assignment on August 16, 2026, to make space for fellow southpaw Ray Kerr, who was selected from Triple-A Gwinnett.
Young, who debuted in the majors in 2022 with the Seattle Mariners, returned from the 60-day injured list on July 3 after recovering from elbow surgery. He initially performed well in July, achieving a 2.08 ERA over 8 2/3 innings in 12 appearances, but his performance declined sharply in August, where he allowed nine earned runs in just 3 2/3 innings.
In total, Young's 2026 statistics with the Braves included a record of 0-1, an 8.03 ERA, and 15 strikeouts over 12 1/3 innings. Despite showing potential with a solid strikeout rate throughout his career, Young has struggled with consistency and control issues, which have hindered his ability to secure a stable role in the majors. He now faces the possibility of clearing waivers or opting for free agency if he rejects an outright assignment.
