Atlanta Braves Designate Shortstop Luke Williams for Assignment
The Atlanta Braves have designated shortstop Luke Williams for assignment, a decision made on Thursday, shortly after their elimination from the National League Division Series by the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Dodgers won the series 3-1, concluding with a 4-1 victory over the Braves at Truist Park. This roster change is part of the Braves' efforts to adjust their 40-man roster for the offseason, which also included selecting left-hander Danny Young's contract from Triple-A Gwinnett.
Williams, who turned 30 in August, joined the Braves in 2023 but played only two regular-season games and did not participate in the postseason. Over his six-year major league career, he has a batting average of .212 with 21 RBIs and 25 stolen bases across 350 plate appearances. The Braves' decision allows them five days to trade, release, or place Williams on waivers.
