Audi to Delay F1 Power Unit Upgrade Until 2027

Audi has confirmed that it will not implement any additional updates to its Formula 1 power unit before the end of the 2026 season. This decision was communicated by racing director Allan McNish, who indicated that the next significant upgrade will occur in 2027.

After acquiring the Sauber team and launching its first F1 engine project, Audi introduced a power unit upgrade during the Barcelona Grand Prix, which improved driveability. The team has since scored points in three consecutive races, with drivers Gabriel Bortoleto and Nico Hulkenberg contributing to the team's performance.

McNish explained that the decision to delay further upgrades is driven by the need to adhere to budget constraints. He emphasized the importance of managing expectations over multiple seasons rather than focusing solely on immediate improvements. The team plans to continue refining its performance in the latter half of the current season, while major hardware changes are reserved for the 2027 specifications.
