Australia Names Test Squad for South Africa Series with Labuschagne and Connolly

Cricket Australia has announced its 16-member Test squad for the upcoming three-match series against South Africa, retaining Marnus Labuschagne despite his recent struggles. The selection comes amid calls for his exclusion, with notable figures like Ricky Ponting and Matthew Hayden questioning his form.

Labuschagne has not scored a Test century in over three years and has averaged just 24.69 in his last 43 innings. His recent performances against Bangladesh were disappointing, with scores of 1, 31, and 4. Despite this, selectors have chosen to keep him in the squad, which also includes newcomers Cooper Connolly, Michael Neser, and Matthew Kuhnemann.

The series marks the first encounter between Australia and South Africa since the World Test Championship Final last year. The matches will take place in Durban, Gqeberha, and Cape Town, starting on October 9. This tour is significant as it is Australia's first Test visit to South Africa since the 2018 scandal involving ball tampering.
