Ayush Shetty and PV Sindhu Advance in BWF World Championships; Lakshya Sen and Unnati Hooda Eliminated
Ayush Shetty and PV Sindhu progressed to the pre-quarterfinals of the BWF World Championships 2026 held in New Delhi on Wednesday, achieving victories in their respective matches.
Shetty defeated Dumindu Abeywickrama from Sri Lanka with a score of 21-8, 21-10 in just 26 minutes, following his earlier upset of the top seed Shi Yu Qi. He will face Indonesia's Alwi Farhan next. Sindhu also advanced after overcoming Canada's Wen Yu Zhang with a close score of 21-16, 21-17.
In contrast, Lakshya Sen was eliminated by USA's Garret Tan in a tightly contested match, losing 19-21, 21-19, 21-17. Unnati Hooda also exited the tournament after a narrow defeat to Michelle Li of Canada, with scores of 21-11, 9-21, 21-23. Despite the setbacks for Sen and Hooda, Shetty and Sindhu maintained India's hopes in the singles competition.
