Barcelona Plans for IndyCar Race in July 2027 Amid Contract Disputes
The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is being considered for an IndyCar race scheduled for July 2027, but there are conflicting reports regarding the status of a contract.
Spanish media outlet Cadena SER reported that a multi-year agreement had been signed, following an initial claim by El Periodico. This race would mark the American championship's presence in the region of Alex Palou during a season without Formula 1 in Barcelona.
However, a subsequent report from RACER indicated that no contract has been finalized and that negotiations are ongoing. A representative from Penske Entertainment visited Spain during the World Endurance Championship weekend to discuss the event. While the absence of Formula 1 in Barcelona for the upcoming year is confirmed, the addition of an IndyCar race would provide another major motorsport event in 2027, rather than replacing a lost Grand Prix.
