Baylor Fires Head Coach Dave Aranda After Loss to Kansas
The Baylor Bears have parted ways with head coach Dave Aranda after a 25-24 loss to the Kansas Jayhawks in Week 8. This decision was reported by ESPN's Pete Thamel on Sunday morning.
Aranda's record at Baylor stands at 40-40 over seven seasons, with the team struggling recently after consecutive losses to TCU and Kansas, affecting their position in the Big 12 Conference. He was appointed head coach in 2020 and led the Bears to a successful 12-2 season in 2021, including a Sugar Bowl victory. However, the team has only achieved one winning season since then, finishing 8-5 in 2024.
Following his dismissal, defensive coordinator Joe Klanderman will serve as the interim head coach. Klanderman joined Baylor this season after a stint at Kansas State. Aranda was under contract until 2029, but the university opted for a change as the Bears prepare to face the UCF Golden Knights on Friday night.
