Baylor University Parts Ways with Coach Dave Aranda After Seven Seasons
Baylor University has terminated the contract of head coach Dave Aranda after seven seasons, as confirmed by the program on Sunday. Aranda concluded his time with a record of 40 wins and 40 losses, including 26 wins and 32 losses in Big 12 competition.
During his tenure, Aranda led the Bears to their first Big 12 title and a Sugar Bowl victory in 2021, marking a high point for the program. However, subsequent seasons saw a decline, with four losing records and no consecutive winning seasons. The team struggled to adapt to the new player compensation landscape and faced challenges in staff retention.
Joe Klanderman, the defensive coordinator, has been appointed as the interim coach. The university's athletic director, Doug McNamee, acknowledged Aranda's contributions while stating that a change in leadership was necessary for the program's future. The search for a new head coach will be McNamee's first major decision since taking the role.
