Beatles Tourist Attraction in Liverpool Up for Sale
A community attraction in Liverpool dedicated to the Beatles has been listed for sale after ceasing operations on New Year's Eve. The Penny Lane Community Trust faced challenges from rising costs and a decrease in visitor numbers.
Richard Kemp, a former Lord Mayor and local councillor, criticized the lengthy process of finding a new buyer, which could take over a year. Liverpool City Council is collaborating with liquidators to explore future possibilities for the site, which has been a popular destination for tourists visiting Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields.
The property, which includes a visitor center filled with Beatles memorabilia and a large mural of Paul McCartney and John Lennon, is being marketed to charities and community organizations. The council, which owns the freehold, must approve any sale of the remaining leasehold. The trust, established in 2003, opened the community center and visitor center in 2010 but went into liquidation earlier this year.
