Bede Durbidge to Compete in 2026 Maldives Surfing Champions Trophy
Bede Durbidge is set to compete in the 2026 Four Seasons Maldives Surfing Champions Trophy alongside fellow surfers Kai Lenny, Mason Ho, and Victor Bernardo. This invite-only event will take place from September 4 to 11 at the renowned Sultans surf break in North Male.
The 43-year-old Durbidge, a former Championship Tour competitor, has remained active in the surfing community as a coach since his last competitive appearance in 2017. He has been instrumental in training athletes for the Olympics and continues to engage with competitive surfing strategies.
Durbidge's competitive history includes three victories on the ASP World Tour between 2006 and 2008, with a notable runner-up finish in the world tour rankings in 2008. The Champions Trophy format differs from traditional competitions, requiring participants to ride various board types, including single fins and twins, which Durbidge is eager to experience despite feeling nervous about the transition.
