Behren Morton Shines as Rookie QB and Punter for Patriots
In a preseason game, Patriots rookie quarterback Behren Morton demonstrated his versatility by stepping in as a punter and throwing a game-winning touchdown. Morton, a seventh-round draft pick, played a crucial role in the team's late-game offense, completing 13 of 17 passes for 129 yards, including a decisive 37-yard touchdown pass in the final minute.
Morton also filled in admirably as a punter after the regular punter, Bryce Baringer, left the game due to illness. He punted three times, averaging 44.3 yards per kick. Morton, who had not punted since high school, expressed surprise at the speed of the rush during his first attempt but managed to execute effectively.
His performance in both roles has bolstered his chances of making the 53-man roster, showcasing his adaptability and skill under pressure.
