Ben Rortvedt Becomes Minor League Free Agent
Ben Rortvedt has decided to enter minor league free agency after being removed from the Dodgers' 40-man roster in September. This move was anticipated due to his three-plus years of MLB service time, which qualified him for free agency.
Rortvedt contributed to the Dodgers' 2025 World Series victory, participating in 18 regular-season games and four playoff games. His journey this year included multiple team changes, starting with a waiver claim that sent him from the Dodgers to the Reds in November, then back to the Dodgers in February, and finally to the Mets, who later designated him for assignment.
In August, Rortvedt played 16 games for Los Angeles, achieving a batting line of .185 over 28 plate appearances. Throughout his career with the Twins, Yankees, Rays, and Dodgers, he has recorded a .189 batting average with nine home runs. At 29, Rortvedt is expected to sign a minor league deal and compete for a backup position in Spring Training, with a return to the Dodgers being a possibility.
