Ben Whitver of Penn State Football to Plead Not Guilty in DUI Case
Ben Whitver, a wide receiver for Penn State football, has announced his intention to plead not guilty in his DUI case and has requested a jury trial, as indicated in court documents.
The charges against the 19-year-old freshman include two counts of driving under the influence of ethyl alcohol and Delta-9 THC, along with a charge for driving the wrong way on E. Calder Way. These charges are related to an incident that occurred on July 11, during which a State College Police officer noted a strong smell of marijuana and observed Whitver's bloodshot eyes.
Following a field sobriety test, which Whitver reportedly did not pass, he was taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center for a blood draw. The lab results revealed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.020 gram% ethyl alcohol and a positive result for Delta-9 THC. Penn State football has stated that they are aware of the charges and that these actions do not align with the program's values.
