Benhard Janse van Rensburg Addresses Springboks Call-Up Claims
Benhard Janse van Rensburg, a centre who joined Bristol from London Irish in 2023, has stated he was not aware of any potential call-up to the South African rugby team prior to his debut for England. Although he expressed a desire to play for South Africa, he denied claims made by Springboks coach Rassie Erasmus that he was in talks with officials.
Janse van Rensburg, who previously played for South Africa's under-20 team, became eligible for England after residing in the country for five years. He made his Test debut against Fiji in July, scoring shortly after coming on as a substitute. Despite his selection for England facing criticism, he acknowledged the differing opinions on his inclusion.
He noted that while he understands the mixed reactions, his focus remains on performing well for whichever team he represents. Janse van Rensburg has integrated well into the England squad, even engaging with teammates through video games and enjoying card games during the tour.
