Benjamin Mendy Auctions 2018 World Cup Replica Trophy for $62,200
Benjamin Mendy, a member of the French national team that won the 2018 World Cup, has auctioned his official replica trophy for around $62,200. The auction took place through Goldin, an American collectibles house, as part of its Global Football Auction Part 2, which concluded on July 25.
The trophy sold was not the original World Cup but a gold-plated replica awarded to each champion, measuring about 38 centimeters tall. It had a crack at its base and showed signs of wear. The winning bidder received a certificate of authenticity signed by Mendy.
Mendy, now 32, played a limited role in the 2018 tournament, featuring for only 40 minutes in a group-stage match. His football career has faced challenges due to injuries and legal issues, but he currently plays for Pogoń Szczecin in Poland.
