Mathurin, who was previously with the LA Clippers, was a restricted free agent and is expected to transition to the Pelicans after the Clippers allow him to leave. New Orleans has shown interest in Mathurin since his time with the Indiana Pacers, viewing him as a potential long-term asset.

The 24-year-old Montreal native was selected as the sixth overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft and averaged 17.6 points and 5.4 rebounds per game last season. His performance included a mix of starting and bench roles, with notable scoring ability, although he faced challenges with injuries and consistency throughout the season.
