Bernie Kosar Discusses Health Struggles After NFL Career
Bernie Kosar, a former NFL quarterback known for his time with the Cleveland Browns, Dallas Cowboys, and Miami Dolphins, has opened up about his significant health struggles after retiring from football. He has faced numerous medical issues, including a liver transplant, Parkinson’s disease, and dementia, which he attributes to the physical toll of his NFL career.
Kosar revealed that he experienced over 100 concussions and underwent more than 100 surgeries during his time in the league. He also suffered from seizures, with one incident leading to a 96-hour coma. After regaining consciousness, a doctor praised his resilience and advised him to adhere to his medication regimen.
At one point, Kosar was taking over 100 pills daily, including high doses of OxyContin, Adderall, and Vyvanse. He has previously discussed the dark period of his life when he struggled with sleep and turned to painkillers, highlighting the severe impact of his football career on his health.
