Big Ten Acknowledges Referee Error in Oregon's Loss to UCLA
In a closely contested game on Saturday, Oregon fell to UCLA with a score of 17-15, missing a critical two-point conversion attempt with 2:16 remaining.
The attempt followed a personal foul penalty for facemasking against UCLA, but the officials incorrectly spotted the ball at the 1.5-yard line instead of less than half a yard from the goal line, where it should have been placed after Oregon quarterback Brock Thomas was tackled.
The Big Ten acknowledged the officiating mistake, stating that the ball should have been spotted based on the end of the run rather than the original line of scrimmage. The conference has communicated with its officiating team regarding this error and aims to ensure better adherence to the rules in future games.
