Blake Dunn to Undergo Ulnar Nerve Surgery

Blake Dunn, an outfielder for the Cincinnati Reds, is scheduled to have ulnar nerve transposition surgery on September 16, 2026. This will be his second surgery in two months, following an internal brace procedure to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow on August 3.

Ulnar nerve transpositions are performed to relieve nerve compression and involve repositioning the nerve within the arm. While this surgery is not common, several major league players have undergone similar procedures in recent seasons. Dunn, who recently turned 28, has played parts of three seasons with the Reds and achieved a career-high 155 plate appearances in 2026, posting a batting line of .282/.335/.387.

The Reds' outfield has struggled significantly this season, ranking last in the league for production. Dunn's performance in the minors has been solid, and if he recovers well, he could be a key player for the team in 2027 as they look to improve after missing the playoffs.
