Blind Surfer Steve Fox Impresses Locals in Queensland

Steve Fox, a 60-year-old para surfing champion, has amazed locals in Agnes Water, Queensland, during his visit. Despite being legally blind, Fox demonstrated his surfing abilities with the assistance of local instructor Shayne Silver.

Fox, who lost his sight due to retinitis pigmentosa, has adapted his surfing technique by learning to listen to and feel the ocean. He employs a system with his instructor to navigate the waves, using directional cues to paddle effectively.

Surfing Australia is advocating for the inclusion of para surfing in the Brisbane 2032 Olympics, highlighting the sport's growing popularity. Fox, who was recently crowned a national champion at the Australian Para Surfing Titles, aims to motivate others in the blind and vision-impaired community to engage in surfing.
