Blue Jays Acquire Catcher Shawn Ross from Mets

The Toronto Blue Jays have claimed catcher Shawn Ross from the New York Mets, assigning him to Triple-A Buffalo. This move follows the Mets designating Ross for assignment two days prior.

Ross began his professional career with the Pittsburgh Pirates as an undrafted free agent in 2022, making his MLB debut earlier this season. After a brief stint with the Pirates, where he played two games, he was claimed by the Mets but only participated in Triple-A Syracuse.

Throughout his minor league career, Ross has recorded a .189 batting average with 53 home runs over 1,075 plate appearances. His performance includes a high strikeout rate of 38.51%, which the Blue Jays hope to improve. With Alejandro Kirk and Brandon Valenzuela as the primary catchers, Ross adds depth to the team's roster and has two years of minor league options remaining.
