Blue Jays Add Simeon Woods Richardson to Roster
The Toronto Blue Jays have announced the selection of right-hander Simeon Woods Richardson to their roster. This decision follows the optioning of right-hander Lazaro Estrada to Triple-A Buffalo and the designation of catcher Willie MacIver for assignment to create a spot on the 40-man roster.
In addition to these moves, the Blue Jays optioned infielder/outfielder Davis Schneider for infielder/outfielder Charles McAdoo and outrighted outfielder Rudy Martin Jr. to Triple-A after his recent designation for assignment. These changes come as the team has faced a demanding schedule, going into extra innings in four of their last five games, which has put significant strain on their bullpen.
Woods Richardson, who has been performing adequately in Triple-A with a 4.07 earned run average over 24 1/3 innings, was previously outrighted in June. His performance in the majors this year has been challenging, with a 6.40 ERA. However, given the current state of the bullpen and the need for fresh arms, he was deemed the best option for the upcoming game against the Philadelphia Phillies.
