Blue Jays Assign Lazaro Estrada to Triple-A Buffalo
The Toronto Blue Jays have officially assigned right-hander Lazaro Estrada to Triple-A Buffalo, as announced by the team. This decision follows his designation for assignment over the weekend, which was necessary to create space on the 40-man roster for Daz Cameron.
Estrada, 27, has had a fluctuating career in middle relief over the past few seasons, posting a nearly 7.00 earned run average across 20 1/3 innings in Major League Baseball. Although he has a solid minor league history, he has struggled to perform against major league hitters. This season, he has been limited to 25 innings in Triple-A due to a shoulder impingement, but he has maintained a 2.52 ERA and a 26% strikeout rate.
It is notable that Estrada's minor league success did not attract interest from other teams during the waiver process. As this is his first outright assignment and he has under three years of MLB service time, he is required to accept the assignment and will continue with the Bisons for the remainder of the season. If he is not reinstated to the 40-man roster by the end of the season, he will become a minor league free agent.
