Blue Jays Assign Lenyn Sosa to Triple-A Buffalo After Clearing Waivers
The Toronto Blue Jays have announced that infielder Lenyn Sosa has cleared outright waivers and will be assigned to Triple-A Buffalo. Previously on the major league 60-day injured list, Sosa was waived instead of being reinstated to the active roster.
Sosa, who is 26 years old, was acquired from the Chicago White Sox in April. He played 28 games for the Blue Jays, recording a batting line of .188/.205/.275 before suffering a right wrist contusion that placed him on the injured list in late May. Although he began a rehab assignment in June, it was cut short after three days. He recently resumed another rehab assignment.
Having surpassed three years of big league service time while on the injured list, Sosa has the right to decline the outright assignment and opt for free agency. The Blue Jays did not disclose whether he would take this route. If he chooses to remain with the team and reports to Triple-A, he would still become a free agent at the end of the season if not added back to the major league roster.
