Blue Jays Designate Jesús Sánchez for Assignment
The Toronto Blue Jays announced on Friday that outfielder Jesús Sánchez has been designated for assignment, making room for Rudy Martin Jr. on the roster.
Sánchez, who was acquired from the Houston Astros earlier this year, started the season well but saw his playing time decrease. He has struggled against left-handed pitchers, hitting only 4-for-30 this season, while maintaining a decent average against right-handers.
Defensively, Sánchez has faced criticism, with metrics indicating poor performance in the outfield. His contract, which was agreed upon to avoid arbitration, is set at $6.8 million, but he may not be claimed off waivers due to his disappointing season. If he clears waivers, he will likely become a free agent this winter.
