Blue Jays Designate Simeon Woods Richardson for Assignment

The Toronto Blue Jays have designated right-handed pitcher Simeon Woods Richardson for assignment and recalled fellow righty CJ Van Eyk. This announcement was made on August 28, 2026.

Woods Richardson, who is 25 years old, was in his second stint with the Blue Jays this season. He had previously been part of a trade with the Minnesota Twins in 2021. After struggling earlier this year, he was reacquired by the Blue Jays but has now been DFA'd following a poor performance against the Kansas City Royals, where he allowed six runs in one inning.

Despite a decent ERA of 3.93 in 18 1/3 innings since his return, Woods Richardson has faced challenges, including a high walk rate of 15.8%. The Blue Jays will place him on waivers, allowing other teams 48 hours to claim him. If unclaimed, he may opt for free agency or accept a minor league assignment.
