Blue Jays Promote Brett Bateman, Place Luis Urias on Injured List
The Toronto Blue Jays have announced the promotion of outfielder Brett Bateman, who is set to make his major-league debut on Friday against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Bateman, acquired in a trade involving Kevin Gausman, will start in center field and bat ninth in the lineup. He has performed well in triple-A this season, boasting a .312 batting average with three home runs and 20 stolen bases over 84 games.
Infielder Luis Urias has been placed on the 10-day injured list due to a right quad strain sustained during a game against the Chicago Cubs. He had been performing well for the Blue Jays, holding a .776 OPS. In response to Urias's injury, Rudy Martin Jr. was designated for assignment, and Josh Smith, another recent trade acquisition, is expected to help fill in the infield gaps.
