Blue Jays Rest Key Players Against Guardians
The Toronto Blue Jays have decided to rest George Springer, Alejandro Kirk, and Kazuma Okamoto for their game against the Cleveland Guardians on Thursday, as they continue their pursuit of a wild-card position.
In their absence, Sean Keys, Brandon Valenzuela, and Josh Smith will take their places in the lineup. All three players participated in the previous day's 11-0 victory over the Guardians, with Springer contributing an RBI double, while Kirk and Okamoto did not record a hit.
Springer has improved his batting average from .239 to .251 since the start of August, with a total of 14 home runs and 46 RBIs this season. Okamoto leads the team in home runs with 28 but has a .302 on-base percentage and the highest strikeout total at 165. Kirk had a strong August, hitting .341 with five home runs and 20 RBIs. The Blue Jays, currently at 69-71, are aiming for a crucial series win against the Guardians, who hold a slight edge at 70-69.
