Blue Jays' Santander Progressing Toward Rehab Games Next Week

Anthony Santander of the Toronto Blue Jays is nearing a return to play this season, according to manager John Schneider. Santander is set to hit off live pitching in Florida over the weekend, and if all goes well, he may participate in triple-A rehab games next week.

The 31-year-old has not played in 2026 due to shoulder surgery in February and has struggled with injuries, appearing in only 54 games since signing a five-year contract with the Blue Jays. Previously, he was a standout player for the Orioles, hitting a career-high 44 home runs in 2024.

In addition to Santander's progress, Schneider expressed optimism about Trey Yesavage's potential return this season. Yesavage is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Friday, and his role may shift to a bulk option rather than a traditional starter if he returns. The Blue Jays are currently 1.5 games behind the Cleveland Guardians for the final American League wild-card spot.
