Blue Jays Set to Promote Rudy Martin Jr. for MLB Debut

The Toronto Blue Jays are preparing to promote outfielder Rudy Martin Jr. from Triple-A Buffalo, as reported by ESPN's Jeff Passan. This move comes as Martin, a 30-year-old rookie, is set to make his MLB debut after a lengthy 12-year journey through the minor leagues.

This will be Martin's second call-up to the majors this year, although he did not play in his first stint with the Baltimore Orioles before being designated for assignment. The Blue Jays claimed him from Baltimore in late July, but he was briefly designated for assignment again when the team called up Brett Bateman. After clearing waivers, Martin remained with the Jays' Triple-A affiliate, where he has recorded a .253 batting average over 114 plate appearances.

Throughout the season, Martin has accumulated 369 plate appearances across both the Royals and Blue Jays organizations, achieving a combined batting line of .274/.394/.421. He has hit 11 home runs and stolen 45 bases in 53 attempts. Drafted by the Royals in 2011, Martin has played in various leagues, including independent and foreign leagues, totaling 931 professional games and 3775 plate appearances in pursuit of a major league opportunity.
