Booker T Reflects on His WCW Championship Win and Fan Acceptance

Booker T has revisited his initial reign as the WCW World Heavyweight Champion, expressing his concerns about fan acceptance as a Black wrestler. He won the title at Bash at the Beach in 2000 after years of hard work in WCW.

Despite his confidence, Booker T was apprehensive about how he would be received, especially considering the history of Black champions in wrestling. He recalled Ron Simmons' championship reign and felt that he did not receive the recognition he deserved, which made Booker T question his own potential reception in the role.

Booker T acknowledged his talent but noted that success in WCW was often influenced by backstage politics and connections. After his first title win in July 2000, he went on to have two additional reigns later that year and reclaimed the title the following year, becoming the last champion before WCW was sold to WWE.
